Accessing the Show

Episode 2: The Viewing Party

To prepare the new club members for an energetic discussion, Sophie and Ryan approach several new community center members and invite them to the first club meeting. The new members are encouraged to sign up for Streaming Plus, since Finding Alyssa is exclusive to that service.

Sophie is surprised that some of them say they aren’t planning to watch the show. Ryan reminds her that not everyone subscribes to Streaming Plus.

Luckily, Tania has her own subscription. She graciously offers those who don’t have, or who can’t afford Streaming Plus, to come to the community center after school on Tuesday to watch the episode they’ll be discussing in TV Club the following day. That way everyone has access, and no one feels left behind.

Logging In

When you begin a new session, a website will ask you to log in with your username an password. Learn more about authentication.

Authentication

Websites use a variety of ways to verify that the person on the other end of the connection is who they say they are. They also may use encryption to ensure that if anyone intercepts the information before it reaches its destination, they won’t be able to read it.

Tania usually watches Streaming Plus on her TV at home. In order to sign in on a community center computer, Streaming Plus requires 2-factor authentication to keep her information private and verify she's really the person logging in.

The app sends a code to Tania's cell phone via text message. She enters it onto the community center computer and is now able to access her Streaming Plus account.

They’re ready to watch the show!

Multifactor Authentication

1 Many websites use multifactor authentication, which requires the person logging in to provide additional identifying information beyond just the password.

Extra Layer of Security

  • A link in a text message
  • An email sent to address already on file Security questions
  • Plug a physical key directly into machine

2 Multifactor authentication is important because each step provides an additional layer of protection that must be broken in order for someone unauthorized to access your account.
